Please take a moment to visit my Zazzle shop, Joy of the Lord.

It is that time of year when spring seems to be in a quiet battle with winter. Each day the signs of new life grow a little stronger. I am grateful for this seasonal struggle, as it helps lift my spirits and gently pulls me out of my seasonal depression.

I’ve planted a few cold-weather crops in the garden. My garlic, which I am trying for the first time, seems to be coming up just fine. So far, it has remained untouched by the local wildlife—raccoons and squirrels—so I am thankful for that small blessing.

Soon my favorite subjects—flowers and insects—will begin appearing everywhere. I remember one especially magical visit to Garvan Woodland Gardens. The tulips were at their peak, and I had never seen such a breathtaking display of color in all my life. It felt as though the gardens had been painted by the hand of God Himself. I have returned several times in the spring, but I have never quite managed to arrive when the tulips were that spectacular again.

Even so, every visit reminds me of the beauty and creativity of our LORD’s creation. The changing seasons, the unfolding flowers, and even the smallest insects are all gentle reminders of His care, His design, and His faithfulness to bring new life again and again.
